World Humanitarian Day 2024
Today, SOLO, Executive Director, Mr. Hussein, joined fellow humanitarian workers in an event organized by the French Embassy to celebrate World Humanitarian Day 2024 in Nairobi. We extend our sincere thanks to the French Embassy for coordinating and hosting this important gathering for its partners in Kenya and Somalia.
As we come together on this day, we are reminded of the unwavering dedication of humanitarian workers who stand at the forefront of crises, delivering hope and relief to those in need. This year, World Humanitarian Day focuses on the critical intersection between climate change and humanitarian emergencies—an urgent issue that requires our collective attention and action.
In his address, Mr. Hussein emphasized how climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of natural disasters, placing unprecedented strain on communities and the organizations working to support them. In Kenya, we’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impacts of prolonged droughts and floods, which threaten food security and displace entire communities. These challenges demand not just immediate response, but also long-term resilience-building efforts to ensure that no one is left behind.
In Somalia, the situation is even more complex, with climate change exacerbating the effects of ongoing conflict and instability. Despite these immense hardships, the resilience of the Somali people shines through, supported by the tireless efforts of local humanitarian actors who understand their communities’ needs deeply.
As we commemorate World Humanitarian Day, SOLO reaffirms its commitment to advocating for stronger climate action, investing in sustainable development, and prioritizing the protection of the most vulnerable. We honor the courage and dedication of humanitarian workers everywhere, whose work embodies the enduring spirit of humanity.
Together, we can create a more resilient and equitable future, where every person has the opportunity to live with dignity, safety, and hope.
